Ihai Wooden Memorial Tablet

An Ihai is a small standing memorial tablet used in Japanese Buddhist tradition to hold the name and presence of someone who has died, kept on a home altar as a place of remembrance. At Vanillery Garden, we've brought this same quiet form into pet loss care — a small wooden tablet inscribed with your pet's name, made to stand on an altar as a lasting point of connection.

When you order an Ihai tablet, your pet's name is added to the Vanillery Garden sanctuary altar, where it stays held within our ongoing rhythm of chants, blessings, and quiet ceremony. It's a way of saying: this name still matters, this bond is still honored.

What's included:

  • A small standing wooden tablet, personalized with your pet's name
  • written with durable sumi-e ink and furnished with pure tung oil
  • Placement on the Vanillery Garden memorial altar before being shipped out
  • A keepsake you can hold, place on your own altar or shelf, or keep somewhere quiet and personal

How it works: This offering is donation-based. There is no set price for the tablet itself — you're only asked to cover the cost of shipping, calculated at checkout. If you'd like to support the sanctuary further, you're always welcome to add a donation, but it's never required.

A note on grief: There's no timeline for missing someone, animal or human. This tablet isn't about closure — it's a small, steady way of keeping your pet's name spoken and seen, for as long as you need it to be.
